In January 2011, MedcomSoft will be begin providing clinicians, medical staff, and office personnel the opportunity to learn more about “meaningful use” in a webinar setting. Each webinar will contain independent industry information about “meaningful use” along with a question and answer period available to all attendees. A general outline of each scheduled webinar is located below:

January 11th 10:00 AM (EST) - "Meaningful Use" – What does this mean for a practice?

“Meaningful Use” is an industry buzz term with a lot of talk centered on these two words. This webinar will outline what “Meaningful Use” is, how it applies to the medical world, and what is necessary for practices or clinics to meet the “Meaningful Use” criteria, put in place by the Office of the National Coordinator(ONC) for incentive payments, beginning in 2011.

February 16th 3:00 PM(EST) - "Reporting Requirements" – How reports can help

Part of meeting “Meaningful Use” requirements is knowing how to utilize effective reports and implementing this information within a medical practice or clinic. Reports can help clinicians with their patient quality of care on an ongoing basis when they have pertinent information available at their fingertips. That information needs to be easy to read and understand. Learn how to utilize reports in a practice looking to meet “Meaningful Use”.

March 14th 1:00 PM(EST) - "ONC Certified EMRs" – How to choose and when to choose

There are many Electronic Health Record(EHR) options out there to choose from and implement in your practice. Learn about the Office of the National Coordinator(ONC) certification and the necessary questions to ask any prospective Electronic Health Record(EHR) vendor you are looking at to make part of your practice. Also, learn about incentive payments and deadlines for EHR implementation.

The MSV saw a gap in service and technology for the smaller physician practices across the state of Virginia. One of the principle goals of the EMR coalition to serve as an educator in establishing common ground in developing guidelines on EMR systems functionality around ARRA’s Meaningful Use mandates from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Shawn Long, CEO, states the reason for the name change was simple, "We wanted to better align ourselves with the market we represent." The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has set a timeline and established payment incentives for implementation and meaningful use of an EMR solution for physicians and hospitals. For those providers who do not have an EMR solution implemented by 2015, Medicare will begin reducing their payments for services.
